Side column on Category disappeared after Free Shipping bar for Magento 2 was installed.

Question: 

When your M2 free shipping bar is installed, the side column on category pages goes away and filters show up on the top of the category pages.

How can I change it so the side column stays on category pages?

Answer:

In file: catalog_category_view.xml

This needs to be removed: layout="1column"

This was over-writing your themes 2 column catalog setting. You removed this and set the ‘free-shipping-bar’ class to 100% width.
